Till The Cock Crows Thrice....

I have noticed large numbers of horrifying chicken pitchers while shopping, and I figured they were just "country kitchen elements" for people to lazy to think about decor, but after a recent discovery at This Site I came across an apocryphal story to excuse them :

There were two wealthy families in the Republic of Florence in the early Renaissance period who were rivals for power. The Medici family held the power, but the Pazzi family wanted to grab it by killing the Medicis.

   

The Medicis, who had amassed their wealth by making peasants work their large land holdings, occasionally threw festivals for the peasants. Giuliano Medici especially liked the parties. So the Pazzis had someone suggest to Giuliano that he hold a festival in a village where one had never been held before.

The Pazzis then plotted to kill Giuliano and his guards at the end of the festival because they would be vulnerable from having drunk copious amounts of wine.

The Pazzis hired assassins, who probably would have succeeded except they had to sneak across a chicken yard to get to Giuliano. The chickens cackled in such a frenzy that it woke Giuliano and his guards, who caught and killed the assassins.

 

 Giuliano was so excited that the chickens had warned him that he threw another festival the next night. He ordered artisans to create ceramic copies of chickens to be used as wine pitchers. Then he gave them to the peasants for good luck.

If only there were such an easy answer for cookie jars shaped like dogs in lei' s and party hats...

To add insult to injury, I didn't charge enough for shipping and came out slightly behind (less than $1) 

this is why I don't speculate very often

But fear not!! I have another speculation today!

it's only $15 for a spot, and they do all the advertizing, I hope it works out..

By the time you have read this I'll have gotten up at 5am, and spent a few hours cleaning and displaying my junk for others to buy, anything I don't sell will go to, (you guessed it) a thrift store!

 When I was a child my parents could rarely afford awesome stuff for the than 4 kids at home, but one awesome thing we had was this cassette player,

well an identical one anyway

I may not remember correctly but I believe that they gave it to the three of us that were under 8 on a night where there was a "grown up party" and wanted to keep us out of their hair. (sadly if this is what they did, I don't remember if it worked)

 

they also gave us these and many other awesome book/tapes to occupy our time:

severely shortened books about the movies with tiny snatches of the music, to make you long for watching the real thing,

This is a good example of a movie that I had "read" the book hundreds of times before seeing the movie (which I than judged to be really really long, which being over 2 hours in the 80's was I guess)

 Oh yeah!! I remember this one!

This was my absolute favorite of all, (I think because I thought it sounded fun to play with tar? I dunno) I listened to this all the time, and being so innocent, I had no concept of racism, eventuially at some point in my life the concepts of "tar babies" and "being racist" fnally came together, but it was still very hard for me to accept since it was so ingrained in me that he was just playing with tar, and the other guys were too stupid not to know what it was.

Making Babies

  

My son is growing up, it makes me sad,

we just got him this car bed and he doesn't want to snuggle at night anymore, just jump right into bed

I've always wanted this too, still living vicariously

It got me thinking,  it probably wont be too long till he asks THAT question, so I've asked my good friend Shotgun Red to field it for me...

 "well you see... when a "toymaker" decides to bring more babies into the world... well ... there's arms and legs everywhere...

umm no wait let me start again." ... "When a doll starts giving you those 'bedroom eyes'...

 "no, umm ... when mommy and daddy aren't expecting it, a baby sneaks into the bedroom in the middle of the night..."

That's Just Sick

As I have mentioned before, I'm from California,

we've had some "unseasonably" cool and recently wet weather, and I for one love it

actually, while I was at a thrift store this week I overheard a couple of store volunteers discussing how Armageddon must be upon us for there to be rain as late in the season as June (in the Sacramento valley it pretty much doesn't rain in the summer) apparently they forgot that is was like this last year too,

Anyway there has been one problem with all of this cool wet weather:

Uncommonly cute common cold (find them at Think Geek)

This guy has been showing up alot more often than usual

But you can avoid looking like this

as long as you remember to wash up

Teaside Village

 I've never been able to grasp that summer starts on the 21th of June, 

To me it seems that  the three months of summer are June, July and August, no matter how hot September wants to be (it's still stuck in fall darn it!)  and so i dream of taking you all to a teaside village, of which I know of...

 We'd stay in a charming little cottage...

There seems to be a perpetual lemonade stand across the street... 

Of course there is also the traditional Tea House...

Which occupies a lovely spot between the Chapel...

June weddings are very auspicious
